Will Homes breaks things. Bikes, equipment and the hearts of some seasoned professionals who took themselves too seriously to be beaten by someone who had only been in the sport for a couple of years.
A co-sponsor’s children call him ‘The Monster’... now commentators and spectators refer to him that way. Will has broken 3 BMC road frames; 1 power meter; two sets of racing wheels; three training wheels; 1 Seatpost; 1 mountain Bike; and 1 set of dura ace cranks.
He’s not reckless, he’s strong. Extraordinarily strong and he has already embarrassed most of the top riders in this State and there will be more.
Will turned up to a criterium and won C Grade in his first race. Not an unheard of achievement, BUT he then won A grade the next week! That doesn’t happen.
Quiet and Modest off the bike, but a real dose of white line fever on it. 86 kg on a good day. 20kg too heavy to be any good on the road ordinarily... but Will is no ordinary athlete.
This year he won the State Road Time Trial Championship... then backed up with the Criterium Championship... and then the State 10km Track Title. He also won the State Road Title... and broke another power meter. The Institute of Sport still doesn’t want him.
We have him and he’ll win some races the Institute riders are
praying he won’t enter.
