CYCOTIXracing is set to officially launch it’s team… and their campaign to shake up Australian cycling ... this weekend.
Some of Tasmania's cycling’s superstars have joined forces under the CYCOTIXracing banner to head for the mainland for the first time as a team, this Thursday to tackle the 180km Oceana Road Race on Saturday 5th of Feb before fronting up at the Frank McCaig Memorial, as well as the Bendigo Madison the following week.
“We’re a bunch of underdogs without doubt” says John Kingston, Manager and owner of CYCOTIX Cycling Specific Orthotics. “Many of our riders are part-timers with huge talent who don’t quite fit the Institute mold, or can’t commit full-time to one of the established teams, so we’ve put them together to make Australian cycling as enetertaining as we can make it.”
“We may not win as many races as we’d like, but we’ll surprise a few that haven’t heard of us … or have discounted us as individuals. They’ve probably underestimated the power of a motivated team with one goal.”
A cyclist himself, John has seen a number of riders overlooked by teams that have a blinkered view on how to give sponsors value for their contribution.
The team is basically made up entirely of Tasmanians, with one mainlander from Perth that fell in love with Tasmanian racing at our Christmas Carnival series. Stephen Hall seem to have what other teams are looking for in a team leader … and too much talent to simply ride as a sacrificial worker. Stephen recently lit up the points score and scratch races at the Australian Track Cycling Championships as the only cyclist able to match National Champion, Alex Edmondson’s strength, probably missing a medal due to a lack of team support. Other teams had as many as five riders riding as a team.
The CYCOTIX team is made up of World, National and State champions who are as much entertainers as they are elite athletes.
Stephen Rossendell has been a scratch-marker at the Christmas Carnivals and has lost count of the State, National and International medals he has at home.
Will Holmes is a bike breaker. Literally. He breaks bikes and equipment through sheer power. The kind of power that saw him with the State Time Trial Title, Road Title, Criterium Title and the 20km Track Title in the last year. He’s beaten the best the State has on numerous occasions, but still can’t get a full-time ride with the established teams. He has something to prove.
Aaron Jones has been described by another team manger as “one of the most exciting riders (in this State) to watch… and there are half a dozen riders also in the team that will be worthy of some attention.
