Described by some as the most annoying track rider of all - even by his friends and team-mates.
He can put a 50cm bike through a 40cm gap and has an uncanny ability to get in a winning position when it shouldn't be possible.
Plays it hard ( we have all had run ins) , but does not hold a grudge. Loves a scrap - Steve Price (one of the discoverers of Richie Porte said AJ “is one of the most exciting riders to watch”.
Aaron Jones started competitive cycling at age 6 on a modified 26 inch track bike – he was so small the cranks had to be shortened from 170mm standard to 140mm so he could reach the pedals. Since then he has not missed a track or road season representing Tasmania and winning State titles. He also represented Australia at the 2005 Youth Olympics..
A highlight for Aaron was not winning the Launceston International Criterium in 2011. Team-mate Luke Ockerby won this prestigious race with Aaron sacrificing his chances to help him. “To be able to play a significant role in the break and also have a team mate win the race was by far the highlight of my year.” he said.
